Choosing in-company AI training: costs, formats and what to look for
Short answer
Specialised agencies usually charge one fixed price per group per day for in-company AI training, at your own location; e-learning and open courses are priced per person. So the larger the team, the better value in-company training is per person. At AI Business Academy the Practice Day costs from €2,500 per group, excluding VAT, for up to twelve participants.
The range of AI training on offer has exploded in two years: from short online modules for self-study to executive lecture series costing four thousand euros. Anyone buying for a team soon finds themselves comparing apples with oranges. This is what the market looks like, what you pay for in each format, and which questions make the difference between a pleasant afternoon and training that changes something in the operation.

What does in-company AI training cost?
You pay for on-site in-company AI training per group, not per participant. With specialised agencies that is one fixed price per group per day, at your own location and with your own cases. What that day costs varies by provider and by scope, so ask for a price for the number of people you actually want to train, and ask what is and is not included.
As a guide, our own prices, excluding VAT:
- Practice Day: from €2,500 per group, one day at your own location, for up to twelve participants. Within the Netherlands that is a fixed price per group; for a location in Belgium we agree travel and accommodation costs in advance.
- Ongoing guidance after the training: from €1,750 per month, with a half-day of sparring each month.
- Online Learning Track for self-study: from €500 per person.
- Multi-day in-company tracks: bespoke, price on request. The Practice Scan beforehand is free.
What exactly is in-company training?
In-company training takes place within your own organisation, for your own employees only, and is tailored to your own work. That is the difference from an open course, where participants from different companies follow a fixed programme together. With in-company AI training the trainer comes to your site, wherever it is in the Netherlands, and the team works with examples and data from its own operation. How we run such a day, from the inventory upfront to the implementation plan afterwards, is set out on the page about on-site in-company AI training.
The four formats and what you pay for
In the Dutch market we see roughly four formats. They differ not only in price, but above all in what you pay for:
- AI literacy e-learning: a rate per person. Scalable across a whole organisation, but generic and without a link to your own work.
- Open enrolment, one day: a rate per person. Suitable for one or two employees, not for a team.
- In-company training day: with specialised agencies, one fixed price per group per day. Your own location, your own cases.
- Executive masterclass or lecture series: between €2,995 and €4,050 per person at business schools (Nyenrode, TIAS; see the sources). Strategic, not operational.
Why in-company almost always wins for teams
An in-company day has one fixed price per group; open enrolment has a rate per participant. The larger the team you train at once, the better value in-company works out per person, so request quotes for both formats for the number of people you actually want to train. The difference in content matters more: good in-company training works with your own work processes and your own data environment. The team does not learn 'what AI is', but how AI makes this specific planning process, this administrative process or this quality check faster and better. That is also exactly what the AI Act means by literacy that fits the context of use.
The questions to ask a provider
Five questions separate the specialists from the slide deck suppliers:
- Do you know our sector? Ask for examples from comparable operations, not for logos.
- Is the afternoon spent on our own processes, or on standard exercises?
- What do we get on paper? An accountability document and a policy template have been part of the package since AI literacy became mandatory.
- How do you handle the GDPR and confidential data during the training?
- What is the next step if we want to go further, and what does it cost?
Subsidy and timing
Through the SLIM scheme (the Dutch subsidy scheme for learning and development in SMEs), SMEs can obtain funding for part of the work surrounding a training course, such as a company review with a training plan or the introduction of a learning method, but not for the training itself: training costs are excluded. The 2026 application windows have closed and those for 2027 have not yet been announced, so keep an eye on the current status (in Dutch). And if you are using the training partly to meet the AI literacy obligation, you have an extra reason not to wait: since 2 August 2026 the AI Act has been largely applicable, with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (Dutch Data Protection Authority) and the RDI (Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure) as the intended Dutch supervisory authorities.

Frequently asked questions
- What does in-company AI training cost?
- With specialised agencies, an in-company training day usually has one fixed price per group per day, at your own location and with your own cases, rather than a rate per participant. What that day costs varies by provider and by scope. At AI Business Academy the Practice Day costs from €2,500 per group, excluding VAT, for up to twelve participants. Ongoing guidance afterwards costs from €1,750 per month.
- How long does in-company AI training take?
- That varies by provider, from a short workshop to a multi-day track. Our Practice Day takes one day at your own location and focuses on one concrete work process; multi-day tracks are bespoke. If you want to go further afterwards, you can opt for Ongoing guidance, with a half-day each month.
- Does the trainer come to our own location, including outside the Randstad (the urban west of the Netherlands)?
- With in-company training, yes: it takes place at your own location. We train on site throughout the Netherlands, including in North Brabant, for example, and in Belgium. Within the Netherlands our Practice Day is a fixed price per group; for a location in Belgium we agree travel and accommodation costs in advance.
- What are the other forms of AI training and what do they cost?
- AI literacy e-learning and an open enrolment day are both priced per person: e-learning is scalable but generic, and an open enrolment day is suitable for one or two employees, not for a team. An executive masterclass or lecture series at a business school costs between €2,995 and €4,050 per person (Nyenrode, TIAS) and is mainly strategic, not operational.
- Why is in-company better for a team than an open course?
- Good in-company training works with your own work processes and your own data environment, so that the team learns how AI makes a specific planning process, administrative process or quality check faster and better. That also matches what the AI Act means by literacy that fits the context of use.
- Which questions should I ask an AI training provider?
- Ask whether the provider knows your sector, with concrete examples; whether the training is built on your own processes or on standard exercises; what you get on paper, such as an accountability document; how the GDPR and confidential data are handled; and what the next step is and what it costs.
- Can I get a subsidy for AI training?
- Not for the training itself. SLIM mkb (the Dutch subsidy scheme for learning and development in SMEs) excludes training costs, but can fund part of the surrounding work for SMEs, such as a company review with a training plan or the introduction of a learning method. The 2026 application windows have closed and those for 2027 have not yet been announced; the current status is on our SLIM page (in Dutch).
- Why is it better not to postpone AI training?
- If you are using the training partly to meet the AI literacy obligation, you have an extra reason not to wait: since 2 August 2026 the AI Act has been largely applicable, with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (Dutch Data Protection Authority) and the RDI (Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure) as the intended Dutch supervisory authorities.
